Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Nuria Carulla studied etching and drawing at Los Andes University in Bogotá and jewelry and gemology at the Escola Massana in Barcelona. Now in her 60s, Carulla enjoys the freedom that comes with detachment. This freedom allows her to see the whole picture and not just part of it, recognize order in chaos, and view things in the distance. Her collection is inspired by the flight of birds and their aerial view of landscapes. Carulla uses treetops as points of reference, and in so doing incorporates light, transparency, geometry and chaos into these pieces of jewelry. She imbues each of her works with nostalgia and desire—they are tributes to life and to those who have accompanied her on her path.
