Program Description

The Museum of Arts and Design is proud to be part of Smithsonian Museum Day, an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. Get your ticket.

Visitors to MAD will receive free admission for two with a printed or downloaded ticket. They will also be eligible for a 10% discount on membership and a 20% discount at The Store at MAD the day the membership is purchased.

Talk | The Tulle Artistry of Benjamin Shine

Multidisciplinary artist Benjamin Shine discusses and presents examples of his pioneering work with tulle to create ethereal three-dimensional portraits.

A special installation in the Museum's sixth floor Project Space of The Strangers Project, an interactive collection of handwritten stories. Explore the lives of the strangers we share space with—and if it you choose, anonymously add your own.

Pop-Up Studio Saturday

Inspired by the exhibition Vera Paints a Scarf: The Art and Design of Vera Neumann, a drop-in workshop for all ages to delve into surface design through the use of stencils, leaf rubbings, and animal footprints. Explore the colorful, layered world of patterns and textures and leave your own mark!

Family Highlights Tour

Tour the Museum and investigate exhibition themes, curatorial thought, art concepts, and current events through observation and discussion, sketching, and other engaging activities.
