Based in Helsinki, Aino Favén moves between art and design to explore the achievements of nature and man. Inspired by contrasts and driven to use materials that have been touched by others, she often incorporates recycled materials and trash into her work. Her pieces made of translucent plastic bags are subtle comments on the large trash islands floating in oceans and endangering nature and wildlife. They also serve as memorial garlands for birds and other animals that have died from eating plastic waste. Favén believes in designing long-lasting works, timeless in form and durable in use, and she is fascinated by how a grubby plastic bag can be transformed into something magical, soft, and beautiful.
