Natalia Arbelaez

Natalia Arbelaez is a Colombian-American artist born and raised in Miami, Florida to immigrant parents. Arbelaez’s ceramics employ traditional Latin American and Amerindian processes and iconography to consider the ways historical and personal influences impact cultural identities. At MAD, Arbelaez will create sculptures that evoke the work of women ceramicists of color who have played a role in the history of ceramics in the United States.

Arbelaez’s work has been exhibited nationally and is included in collections such as the Everson Museum and The Frederik Meijer Gardens. Arbelaez was recognized by the National Council on Education for Ceramic Arts as a 2018 Emerging Artist, and was a resident artist in the ceramics program of the Office of the Arts at Harvard University. Arbelaez received her MFA in ceramics from The Ohio State University and a BFA with a concentration in sculpture and ceramics from Florida International University.
