MAD invites NYC educators to join us for a workshop in connection with The Mad MAD World of Jonathan Adler. This program will begin with a curator-led tour of the exhibition followed by an artmaking workshop with artist and educator Rachel Gisela Cohen. Using collaged fabric, participants will create artworks illustrating their dream artist’s studio or creative sanctuary. Join us for a fun day connecting with fellow teachers, experimenting with new artmaking techniques, and generating new ideas to bring back to your classroom!
MAD will provide all art materials. as well as coffee and morning refreshments.
New York State Educators will earn 4.5 CTLE hours.
We strive to make our programs accessible to all teachers. If you are experiencing financial hardship and do not teach at a NYC Title 1 school, please email the education department at education@madmuseum.org to request a fee waiver.
About the Artist
Rachel Gisela Cohen is a New York City–based artist, educator, and independent curator. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, with recent shows at ARENA, SPRING/BREAK Art Show NYC, SATELLITE Art Fair Miami, Revolt Gallery (New Mexico), The Yard, Armenia Art Fair, Pierogi Gallery’s The Boiler, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, Hunter College Art Galleries, and the Bryant Park Foundation. Cohen has been recognized with fellowships and residencies from organizations including Materia Prima, the National Endowment for the Arts, Revolt Gallery, the Constance Saltonstall Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, COPE NYC, and the Montclair Art Museum. She holds an M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from Pratt Institute and a B.A. in Art History and Visual Arts from Drew University. Currently, she serves as an Emeritus Artist Educator at the Museum of Arts and Design and is on the faculty at the School of Visual Arts, where she also manages SVA’s Artist Residency Programs. As a curator, Cohen has organized exhibitions at venues such as Photoville Art Fair, SPRING/BREAK Art Show, Chashama's Space to Present, Synchrony Financial, and Drew University.
