Paper Fashion with Debra Rapoport

SOLD OUT

Thu, Jun 22 / 6–8 pm

Join multidisciplinary artist and style icon Debra Rapoport for a workshop inspired by our current exhibition Generation Paper: A Fashion Phenom of the 1960s.

Creating avant-garde fashion from paper and other upcycled materials, participants will craft elegant boas from toilet paper rolls, paint, olive and date pits, paper wrapped “gems” and other upcycled embellishments.

MAD will provide the necessary materials. Participants may also bring any items they wish to use on their project. All skill levels welcome.

About the artist

Artist Debra Rapoport works with nontraditional and repurposed materials to create embellishments and accessories for which she is widely admired for wearing with great panache.  Rather than consume, Rapoport reinvents and curates her closet, transcending from fashion into personal style. Rapoport is featured in the film Advanced Style, as well as the three Advanced Style books and Advanced Style TEDx talk with Ari Seth Cohen.  She has taught at the University of California, Davis, New York University, the Museum of Arts and Design, and MoMA. Her work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County of Museum Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum in Athens, Greece, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, the Museum of Arts and Design, and the National Museum of Sweden.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
