The Dark Crystal
Directors Jim Henson and Frank Oz
93 minutes

Join MAD for a free screening of The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson and Frank Oz’s 1982 dark fantasy classic, selected by artist Saya Woolfalk in conjunction with the exhibition, Saya Woolfalk: Empathic Universe

Jim Henson created The Dark Crystal at the height of his career and took five years to make the movie using cutting-edge puppetry design and technology. In this haunting tale of tyranny and sacrifice set in an alien world, Jen (Stephen Garlick), raised by the noble race called the Mystics, has been told that he is the last survivor of his own race, the Gelflings. He sets out to try to find a shard of the dark crystal, a powerful gem that once provided balance to the universe. After the crystal was broken, the evil Skeksis used sinister means to gain control. Jen believes that he can repair the dark crystal and bring peace back to the world if he can only find the remaining shard.

Advanced registration recommended. May not be suitable for small children.
