Blue Bloods: Indigo Dyeing

Sat, Jul 26 / 1 pm

Join fiber artist and textile expert Isa Rodrigues for this afternoon-long, hands-on workshop on the mysterious and famous indigo dye. Originally hailing from India, indigo dye became a luxury commodity as it was introduced into Europe via the Greeks and Romans, becoming known as “blue gold” as only “blue bloods” and royalty could afford textiles dyed in this once extremely expensive dye.  Over the course of the afternoon, Rodrigues will teach participants how to set up an all-natural indigo vat, giving anyone the chance to create their own “blue blood” fabrics by hand.
