MUBI LAB on Building a Cinematic Visual Identity

Join Pablo Martín, Creative Director at the cinema subscription platform MUBI, and Michelle Cho, Head of Creative at MUBI, for a behind-the-scenes look at how their team builds a distinctive cinematic identity through typography, motion, video editing, and print. Together they'll share how MUBI's visual language extends its curatorial vision across every touchpoint of the platform, from the systems and decisions behind the screen to the physical pieces that carry it into the world. Expect an honest conversation about process, collaboration, and craft, and learn how a small in-house team keeps a distinct point of view consistent across film, motion, and print.

About the panelists

Pablo Martín is Creative Director at MUBI, the global streaming service, production company, and film distributor. He leads a multi-talented team of video editors and designers producing trailers, posters, brand campaigns, and promotional items for markets worldwide, along with Notebook, MUBI's printed publication, now in its ninth issue.

Before joining MUBI in March 2019, Pablo co-founded the award-winning studio Atlas with Astrid Stavro in 2012 and received the Spanish National Design and Innovation Award in 2013, the highest honor in the design profession. Over more than 35 years at the forefront of international design, he has produced brand identities, visual communication systems, signage, and packaging, and is globally recognized for his work in newspaper and magazine design.

Pablo also led the design firm Grafica with Fernando Gutiérrez, the most influential design studio in Spain for over two decades. He taught typography for more than fifteen years, has lectured worldwide, and has judged and chaired some of design's most prestigious competitions, including D&AD, SPD, and the Spanish Laus Awards, which he has also won multiple times. He is a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI).

Originally from Barcelona, Pablo studied graphic design at Eina School of Design and began his career working for Mario Eskenazi and Vignelli Associates in New York. He speaks five languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian, and English.

Michelle Cho is a London-based editor and creative, and Head of Creative at MUBI. She joined the company in 2020 as an editor cutting trailers for the platform and now leads a global in-house team of 34 designers, editors, and producers. Coming from a background in editing rather than design, she leads through story and craft, shaping the systems and creative direction that carry MUBI's bold, independent filmmaking to audiences worldwide across streaming, theatrical, print, and beyond.

Alongside her work at MUBI, Michelle is co-founder of Other People, a production company dedicated to bringing rigorous, original visions to the screen. She holds an M.A. in Filmmaking from the London Film School. At Other People, she co-produced Siyabonga (We Are Thankful). Directed by Joshua Magor, Siyabonga was screened in official competition at the Locarno Film Festival. In 2024, she was selected for the TIFF x CJ K-Story Fund, a program supporting emerging Korean-American writer-directors.
