Making with MAD Sessions on Drawing, Jewelry-Making, and Design offered from

June 15–September 4, 2020

New York, NY (June 10, 2020)

Beginning June 15, Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) launches its inaugural Making with MAD Summer Camp and Teen Workshops for ages eight to eighteen—week-long virtual immersions in art and design for young curious creatives who want to expand their skills, meet new friends, and discover new creative outlets. Campers aged eight to fourteen can enroll in Drawing Boot Camp, Wearable Art, and What is Design. Workshops for teens include Drawing Boot Camp, Design Intensive, and Portfolio Development.

MAD’s experienced artist-educators will lead hands-on making activities and each week, an artist-in-residence from the Museum’s Artist Studios program will welcome participants for a virtual studio visit, and a lively talk about life as a working artist. Each session concludes with a virtual group art show and celebration with family and friends.

Summer camp sessions for ages 8–10 take place Monday through Friday, 9–11 am EDT; summer camp sessions for ages 11–14 take place Monday through Friday, 10 am–12 pm EDT; and teen workshops take place Monday through Friday, 2–4 pm EDT.

Prior to each session, a materials list will be provided. Making activities have been designed around materials readily available at home or easily purchased through large online retailers.

Each week-long session costs $350 per participant, or $300 for MAD members and patrons. Additionally, families may join together to create a private camp session for their children. Custom camp and workshops are also available for $400 per participant, or $350 for MAD members and patrons.

ABOUT THE MUSEUM OF ARTS AND DESIGN

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) champions contemporary makers across creative fields and presents the work of artists, designers, and artisans who apply the highest level of ingenuity and skill. Since the Museum’s founding in 1956 by philanthropist and visionary Aileen Osborn Webb, MAD has celebrated all facets of making and the creative processes by which materials are transformed, from traditional techniques to cutting-edge technologies. Today, the Museum’s curatorial program builds upon a rich history of exhibitions that emphasize a cross-disciplinary approach to art and design, and reveals the workmanship behind the objects and environments that shape our everyday lives. MAD provides an international platform for practitioners who are influencing the direction of cultural production and driving twenty-first-century innovation, and fosters a participatory setting for visitors to have direct encounters with skilled making and compelling works of art and design.
