FCKNLZ

Sat, Oct 27 / 11 am–6 pm

Gypset* lifestyle collective FCKNLZ established their reputation with interactive performances in unexpected places: offering manicures at circuit parties , pop-up spas at galleries and guerilla catering services at black tie fundraisers. For MAD's Fun Fellowship, FCKNLZ has chosen to celebrate the golden age of New York nightlife with a theatrical re-staging of club kid appearances on TV talk shows from the early 1990's. Based on transcripts from shows such as Donahue, Geraldo, and Jenny Jones (“So what exactly is a clubkid?”), the group has penned a dramatic re-enactment to premiere before a life studio audience at the Theater at MAD in November. This program is presented in conjunction with Clubkid Herstory Month (October 15-November 15).

*gyp·set [jip-set] adjective 1. describing a lifestyle of equal parts bohemian, trendsetter, decadent traveller, and timeless exotic beauty.

About the Artist

FCKNLZ, a beauty and lifestyle artist collective specializing in mistakes, will present a theatrical re-staging of club kid appearances on TV talk shows from the early 1990's.  Using original footage from shows such as Donahue, Geraldo, and Jenny Jones (“So what exactly is a clubkid?”) as their source material, FCKNLZ will rework the transcripts into a 30 minute performance, casting actors as the host, club kids, and some audience members.  Their new version will be filmed in front of a live audience at MAD, evoking the historical “golden age” of New York nightlife, while also examining how nightlife is portrayed in the media.
