Ryohei Kawanishi’s “NEW” Collection

Thu, May 25 / 6–9 pm

Join designer Ryohei Kawanishi or a member of his fashion team for a live activation of his installation “NEW” Collection, featured in the exhibition fashion after Fashion. In four events held during the month of May, visitors will be treated as “fashion buyers” in order to learn about the process and marketing that go into making fashion collections. Through role-playing, participants will gain insights into the question, “What is the value of a brand name?”

A native of Japan, and a fashion graduate of Central Saint Martins, London, and Parsons School of Design, New York, Ryohei Kawanishi delves into the fashion system to offer new perspectives. Using humor as a method of inquiry, he raises questions about what we perceive and what we actually experience, how we make decisions and what we value. Beneath his wit and intellect are serious questions about how fashion’s intimate entwinement with consumer culture can overshadow its potential for individual expression and communication.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
