In and Out of Uniform

Sat, Jun 23, 2012

Returning to MAD, NYC performance artist and curator Sarah Maxfield recreates her improvisational score In and Out of Uniform. Staged on MAD’s 7th floor throughout the day, In and Out of Uniform is a structured relay through which improvisers interact with a deconstructed military jacket that pays homage to a jacket designed for Ishmael Houston-Jones by Liz Prince in 1986.  The work raises questions of identity and individual value within the confines of a group: what do we gain from entering a uniformed community? What do we lose?  Do we see people differently in and out of uniform?

Performers of the score include Jodi Bender, Laurie Berg, Peggy H. Cheng, Rebecca Davis Carolyn Hall, Aaron Mattocks, Tara O'Con, Jessica Ray, Anna Sperber, Jillian Sweeney, Maggie Thom, David Thomson, Arturo Vidich, Emily Wexler, Enrico D. Wey.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
