MAD Launches Web Competition for "Moving Paper," an International Cut-Paper Animation Film Festival

Filmmakers are invited to submit entries - “People’s Choice” and Jury Prizes to be Awarded in March

New York, NY (December 14, 2009)

The Museum of Arts and Design calls for entries for its upcoming international film festival of cut paper animation, Moving Paper. Presented in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition Slash: Paper under the Knife, the film festival celebrates the use of cut paper in animation, both historical and contemporary, and will be held March 27 and 28, 2010 at the Museum of Arts and Design.

Filmmakers are invited to submit cut-paper animation films for consideration to be presented as part of the film festival. A specially created website, http://movingpaper.madmuseum.org, allows artists to upload their videos and vote in the Museum’s online competition. Submissions will be judged by web visitors and by a jury of artists and curators. Winning entries will be screened as a part of the film festival.

In addition to being a part of Moving Paper, winners will receive cash prizes: $250 grand prize (2 prizes), $150 runner up (4 prizes) and a Slash catalog.
To submit a cut-paper animation film for consideration in the film festival, visit http://movingpaper.madmuseum.org/ for step-by-step instructions.

Competition Guidelines:
• Entries must be 10 minutes or shorter in duration. This can be an excerpt from a longer work (no longer than 20 minutes) or the entirety of the work. If a work is selected for inclusion in the Moving Paper film festival, the entire piece will be shown.
• All entries will be viewable on our website. Visitors are invited to vote for their favorites.
• Submissions will be judged by online visitors for the “people’s choice” winners and by a jury of artists and curators for the “MAD’s choice” winners. Winning films from each category will be screened as a part of the Moving Paper film festival, on March 27 and March 28, 2010.
• Participants may submit as many clips as they wish, but each clip must represent a separate entry, not multiple excerpts from a longer work.
• Entries must be submitted by midnight EST March 1, 2010 for consideration for Moving Paper.
• Winners will be notified of their selections by March 14, 2010, and at that time must be able to provide a full-length version of their entry in the highest quality possible for screening in the MAD theater. An FTP Site for this purpose will be provided.
