Zombie (Zombi 2)

Fri, Jul 9, 2010

1979, Dir. Lucio Fulci
with Tisa Farrow, Ian McCulloch and Richard Johnson

Released as Zombi 2 in Italy, although having no plot connection to George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, Zombie marked the first foray of Lucio Fulci into the genre that would make him a legend.

While investigating an unmanned yacht drifting into the New York City harbor, two patrolmen are attacked by an obese member of the living dead.

Quickly pulling in the daughter of the yacht's owners, the police interview a bewildered Anne Bowles (Tisa Farrow). Shocked to hear of the situation, Bowles explains her father has been away conducting scientific research on the tropical island of Matool.

Determined to discover what has become of her father, Anne travels to the scenic Matool, a cursed tropical island where the recently buried return to life as the living dead.

With the infamous “zombie vs. shark” scene, where a stunt man in zombie make-up battles a real tiger shark underwater, and the first use of Fulci’s trademark “eye gag,” Zombie kick-started the Italian Zombie Film Movement with its unabashed mix of jaw-dropping FX, striking horror, and general madness.

Zombie VS. Shark VS. You: A Zombie Combat Club Demonstration
Roger Ma and the Zombie Combat Club return for another in-person demonstration before the film. This time the ZCC will present vital underwater combat skills for aquatic encounters with the living dead and great white sharks. Must-have knowledge for summer beach outings!
