Punk cinema in the truest sense, Sarah Minter’s video films don’t just document the subculture as it took shape on the outskirts of Mexico City in the ‘80s—they partake in and embody its ethos. Both set in the slum nicknamed Neza York and featuring the youth collective Mierdas Punks (who contributed to the screenplay), Nadie es inocente and Sábado de mierda brashly follow the kids as they mount their own concerts, get in trouble with the law, and eke out their own lives on the periphery of society.
