MADlab: Arts Access provides free tours to Title One Schools.
Through a generous gift by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès, with additional support from HSBC Bank USA, N.A., The Museum of Arts and Design is able to provide free access to Title One Schools.
The Sarah and Seth Glickenhaus Education Center is an open showcase of learning, simultaneously allowing a transparency into the artistic process and demystifying the creative process. The goal is to engender an understanding of the creative process and techniques employed in the transformation of materials into art. It accomplishes this goal by connecting artists and the public in an interactive learning environment where both new technologies and traditional methods are embraced.
The School programs aims to enhance critical thinking, observational and technical skills while exploring the creative process.
MADlab is the Museum of Arts and Design’s signature school program, offering a 90 minute highlighted tour and hands-on workshop in the Museum’s classroom; and is designed to engage students through direct observation, hands-on participation and in-depth discussion.
Each of the core MADlab programs encourages teachers and students to create, explore, and discover the materials and processes involved in producing the works of art we live with, as well as how craft, art, and design concepts are shaped, inspired, and influenced by social and cultural traditions.
The program uses as a resource the many artists available to the Museum through our exhibitions programs and through the open studio program where artists are scheduled in the three professionally equipped spaces. Students and teachers get an opportunity to engage in conversation and demonstration on art making techniques.
