As an artist and lawyer, Raul Martinez is interested in the intersections between art and language, and more specifically in the possibilities of using legal language (i.e. employment contracts, traffic rules and regulation, military training codes, etc.) as material for art, dance and performance. Working as part of DETEXT, a shifting collective of artists and designers, the group has often used material culled from the Internet. Martinez examines the ways ideology enters the collective consciousness and the impact of mass media on social relations.
