MAD will be open on Mon, May 6.

Judy Chicago on Fire

Fri, Apr 10 / 7 pm

Join MAD for a special evening with pioneering American feminist artist Judy Chicago.  Most famous for her work exploring traditionally “feminine” materials such as fiber and ceramics, seen in her seminal piece The Dinner Party, Chicago is less known for her work in pyrotechnics, smoke and dry ice

During this special evening conversation, Chicago sits down with Elissa Auther, MAD’s Windgate Research Curator, to discuss these little known works dating from the late 1960s to today. The conversation will highlight this singular artist’s approach to creating dazzling visual effects of pyrotechnics in the creation of monumental, site-specific installations most recently seen in the work “A Butterfly for Brooklyn” (2014). This event is part of “Judy Chicago: On Fire,” a two-night event exploring Judy Chicago’s works in pyrotechnics hosted by the Brooklyn Museum and the Museum of Arts and Design.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
