Artist Shahzia Sikander in Shangri La

The 2013 exhibition Doris Duke’s Shangri La: Architecture, Landscape, and Islamic Art explored the extraordinary dialogue between Islamic tradition and Western modernity that shaped the fabled Honolulu residence of the philanthropist Doris Duke. A participant in Shangri La’s Contemporary Artists Residency program, the internationally recognized artist Shahzia Sikander shares her impressions of the estate and how it informed her site-specific large-scale projections.
