The Museum of Arts & Design aids teachers in providing skills, resources and information to New York City schoolteachers so that they are better equipped to educate students in the arts.
It is our hope that the Museum’s rich resources encourage new perspectives and potential through the use of contemporary craft and decorative arts in the general curriculum. Through lesson plans, access to the Museum’s online database, links to key websites, lists of local art material suppliers, etc. teachers are given necessary knowledge to integrate craft, art and design into daily classroom instruction; provide core arts-in-education curricula; and given valuable opportunities to network with peers.
Teacher Resource Packets
MAD Teacher Resource Packets provide educators with specially designed lesson plans focusing on a range of topics and grade levels. The packets also give students key information on the works and artists during exploration of our exhibitions and collection.
To make your museum experience more enriching and meaningful, we strongly encourage you to download and use our Teacher Resource Packets in the classroom before as well as after your museum visit.

Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts
MAD’s school-based programs are aligned with the benchmarks for learning outlined in the NYC Department of Education’s Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and New York State Learning Standards.
The Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts (developed in 2004 and revised in 2007) provides a standards-based approach to teaching the arts for K-12. It gives students the opportunity to delve deeply into these subjects and gives teachers the latitude to create an instructional program that demonstrates student learning over time and in varied dimensions.
The Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts is an important step forward in establishing the arts as an essential element in public education.
